At the bottom of the painting, blue, brown, and green represent Earth. Our eyes are pulled upwards as blue and white are pulled up out of Earth and into the clouds above, symbolizing Christ’s ascension into the clouds:
“…he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.” (Acts 1:9b)
Above the clouds, the glory and beauty of the triune God is represented by gold. Behind this gold, brilliant colors hint at “Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to countless thousands of angels in a joyful gathering.” (Hebrews 12:22)
The word became flesh and lived among us (John 1:14) and now a piece of earth resides in Heaven, “[Christ] sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven.” (Hebrews 1:3b)
